Couple Counselling Training Programme
ACCORD NI in partnership with the University of Ulster is offering an opportunity for individuals with a degree in Counselling, or relevant equivalent qualification, to undertake an innovative new course entitled "Professional Programme in Couple Counselling" - with ACCORD providing the opportunity to complete the required experiential component.
The programme comprises 3 modules:
· Preparing for Couple Counselling Practice,
· Supervised Couple Counselling Practice and
· Theoretical Frameworks in Couple Counselling.
Students complete the first module - Preparing for Couple Counselling - before entering clinical practice in ACCORD. The second module- Supervised Couple Counselling Practice - is completed in an ACCORD Centre.
Applications
The first step is to apply on-line to the University of Ulster.
Secondly, applicants complete an Application Form for ACCORD.
Applications will be processed by ACCORD when UU confirms that applicant meets that University's criteria.

Personal Suitability
Successful applicants will demonstrate the following personal attributes:
- Primary needs in applying for the programme are not for personal therapy or emotional support
- An open and dialogic communication style
- Maturity, self-awareness and groundedness
- Good conflict management skills
- Warm, flexible, open, non-judgmental worldview
- Desire & ability to work within ACCORD ethos and mission
Academic Background
Applications will be considered from individuals who have achieved degree level, or equivalent, on an approved counselling training programme with 100 hours of supervised practice forming part of the course. Applicants must also have recent and ongoing supervised post graduation counselling experience – at least 100 hours.
ACCORD Selection Process
- A Paper Selection Process will rank applicants in order. From this panel the highest scoring applicants will be invited to a Selection Conference.
- Following Selection Conference, successful candidates will be placed on a panel from which the names of the highest scoring candidates will be offered a place in an ACCORD Centre.
- Offer of a place in an ACCORD Centre is subject to satisfactory POCVA / Garda vetting and reference checks, and on there being places available in ACCORD and in the University of Ulster
- Applicants who are sponsored by an ACCORD Centre will have their fees subsidized by ACCORD
- Successful applicants are expected to commit to working in an ACCORD Centre for at least three years after completion of the programme.
